May 13, 2011 - Our feature dog is Dug, he is a handsome brown, black, and white small Pug looking for his forever home. He is still recovering from Pneumonia but is up to seeing visitors. He still needs to gain weight, that's an oxymoron for a pug. He is eating well and getting his energy up and ready to play.

We have lots of dogs available and more on their way, so we need your help by spreading the word so we can get these dogs adopted!!! We will also be having our next gourmet Hot Dog Sales on May 28th and June 4th at PetSmart, come out and support us and our dogs! For volunteer information please email Donna Kerr at donnakrrr@shaw.ca
May 11, 2011 - Our feature dog this week is Cher, she is a 2 year old Schnauzer (?) mix female. She is about 20 lbs. Cher has energy to burn and is eager to please. Thinking of obedience or agility? Cher could be the partner for you. She is spayed, housebroke, and good with children, cats and dogs. Have you an energetic household with a fenced yard?

Party for a Park!
You want a beach-front park? Prove it!
Where?
At the itsy bitsy teenie weenie, beach access at the foot of Cedar Avenue (one block from the corner of Pandosy Street and KLO Road).
Why?
Kelowna City Council is being pressured to build condos with only a public walkway at this site. On Monday April 18, they might just do that, despite over 220 people showing up at City Hall to protest!
The City long ago used your taxes to purchase the four waterfront lots south of the Cedar Avenue beach access, and the seven waterfront lots to the north. The stated purpose was to one day create a new lakefront park. Fifty years from now, we want to be remembered as having the vision and passion to create a real park for our community and families; not some "fancy sidewalk," as one brave nine-year-old stated during the public hearing last week. On the east side of Abbott Street, there's oodles of land waiting to be developed, so why not put buildings there instead of in the park? We want both the bike path and walkway through the park, and also a lake view from Abbott Street. We don't want just a walkway that will be in the shade in the morning and in the blazing sun in the afternoon (it's hard to plant big trees in water.)
Who's invited?
We need a pile of old folks, moms and dads, kids and their dogs, girlfriends and boyfriends with Frisbees, bicycles, beach balls, blankets, books, and banjos to hang out in the "Almost Cedar Avenue Park." Come sporting your best Speedos, swimsuits, trunks, tank tops and pedal pushers. It's one afternoon of wholesome fun to make a powerful and visionary statement to Kelowna City Council.
It's gotta be outrageous, so get creative, shame your friends into coming and take an otherwise humdrum Saturday, and bring your butt and lawn chair down to do something important for our city.
Maybe we'll meet again next year when it's a real park!
- People for the Park
P.S. If you bring a car, park it far enough away and walk! We don't need any excuses that the area cannot handle a park.
Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got...till it's gone.
About Us
We are an enthusiastic bunch of volunteers with a passion for animals. Our combined experience covers the care of many different breeds of small dogs. We do not turn away a dog in need!
Where ever possible we educate the public on:
- Responsibilities of a pet for a possible 15 years.
- Reading up on what breed is suitable for a family.
- Being sensible when adopting a dog - you must be "age-appropriate" when considering the life span of a dog.
- Understanding that Vet Care and miscellaneous costs are essential to consider when adopting.
- Neutering & spaying pets, health care, ear care, nail care.
- Treating the pet as a member of the family.
- Locking a pet in the basement, or outside, or in a cage is not an option!
Care of rescue in our homes
This often consists of one or many of the following:
- Some just need a place to stay surrounded by love and security until we find a new home. Usually the situation of their past owner has changed, and the dog is healthy and happy.
- house training an adult dog
- obedience training
- Sometimes the dog requires a dental, vaccines, and spay or neuter.
Why do we do what we do? Our mandate as foster parents is to give these little ones a place to rehabilitate, to feel nothing but security and love and acceptance, and then to find appropriate homes. We also benefit as we earn their trust and love and see them blossom.
